Drainage pipe installation in Tallinn

Drainage systems in an apartment, private house, or other premises are among the most crucial utilities. People are accustomed to comfortable living, where the bath, toilet, or kitchen are located inside the house or building. Therefore, special attention is paid to the design and installation of drainage during construction and renovation.

Depending on the type of space from which wastewater needs to be discharged, the diameter and material of the pipes are selected.

Types of Drainage Pipes

Here are some common types of drainage pipes:

1. Polyethylene Pipe. This is typically black with a wall thickness of 1.2 mm. When pressure is applied to the edges, it can be compressed; it is flexible and quite soft. Pipe diameters are 50, 100, and 110 millimetres. Polyethylene pipes are used for both internal and external system installation, often buried underground or installed within floors.

2. Plastic Pipe. Used indoors as it has a more aesthetic appearance than polyethylene pipes. It cannot be built into walls or floors. The pipe wall thickness is 1 millimetre, and the material from which it is made does not allow the pipe to be flexible and soft, making it more suitable as a vertical drainage pipe. Diameters are the same as polyethylene pipes.

3. Asbestos Pipe. Made from asbestos-cement powder, its diameter ranges from 110 to 400 centimetres. This type of pipe is used for installing external drainage systems. It is durable and long-lasting. The wall thickness of this pipe is 0.8 centimetres.

When installing a drainage system, some important rules must be observed.

The slope should be 0.7 – 1 centimetre. It is also advisable to avoid sharp 90-degree bends; instead, 45-degree elbows and tees with the same angle should be used. Pipes are secured every 1.3 metres with special pipe clamps.

Before connecting pipes, the rubber seal of the pipe socket must be generously lubricated with engine oil. Sockets with a diameter of 50 mm are installed for sinks, baths, or shower cabins, and 100 mm for toilets.

Furthermore, a ventilation stack (riser) should not be forgotten, as it helps to remove unpleasant odours from the room and prevent vacuum formation in the drainage system.
