Our planet's climate dictates its own rules, leading people to seek refuge from summer heat with air conditioning and strive to warm their homes in winter in various ways. Technology constantly evolves, and today there are numerous methods for heating premises. The most affordable and efficient options include gas or electric heating, where a heat transfer medium circulates through radiators located in rooms.

As an example of heating installation, we can discuss the 'Leningrad project.' As the name suggests, this heating system was conceived and widely used in the city on the Neva River (St. Petersburg). The operating principle of such a system is practically the same as that of a two-pipe heating system. The only difference is that in the Leningrad heating system, the heat transfer medium reaches the radiator via a single pipe.

Heating System Installation – What's Important to Know

Initially, radiators are hung on the walls of rooms. Allow approximately 1.5 square metres of living space per radiator section. Next, technological openings are made where the piping will be located. Sleeves are inserted into these openings – these are metal pipes designed to accommodate the heating pipes later.

Now, the pipe installation can begin. For polypropylene pipes, brackets are fixed every 1.5 metres. Metal pipes may require less frequent fixing. For the heating system to operate efficiently, bypass valves, which are smaller diameter pipes, are welded into the pipes beneath each radiator. This allows the heat transfer medium to circulate more effectively into the radiator.

A ball valve or pressure-regulating valve is also installed on each radiator. This technology allows for individual temperature control in each room. The peculiarity of the 'Leningrad project' lies in the economical use of resources for system installation and operation, as the main pipe serves as both supply and return. After the piping installation is complete, a circulation pump is installed in the system, and the pipe is connected to the boiler.

When filling the system with a heat transfer medium, air must be bled from each radiator separately, starting from the uppermost ones. It is crucial to remember that upon initial activation, the system should not be set to critical temperatures. Start with minimal power and gradually increase it.
