Drainage Systems in Tallinn

A distinctive feature of a sewage system is the gravity-fed removal of waste and wastewater from a space. However, even 'gravity-fed' systems still experience some pressure, as wastewater flows from a higher to a lower point. This means that even from the first floor to the basement, there will be water pressure, albeit minor, let alone in a multi-storey building. Therefore, the selection of drainage pipes is crucial, as different pipes are installed under varying conditions.

What to Consider When Choosing Drainage Pipes

Let's explore the types of pipes used for drainage systems. Currently, numerous options are available, but all must meet the requirements of the specific project.

For underground installations, pipes with higher durability are well-suited. Corrugated polypropylene pipes are an excellent choice here. Thanks to their ribbed outer surface, such pipes can withstand greater soil pressure from the surrounding ground.

Polyethylene pipes can also be used. However, it's important to remember that their diameter should not exceed 110 mm, which means they should not be installed deeper than 2.5 metres. Another option for external drainage installation is asbestos-cement pipes. These are rarely used today, as their installation requires the tricky process of sealing connection sleeves, which is quite labour-intensive.

For indoor drainage installation, especially in visible areas, polypropylene pipes with diameters of 50 and 100 millimetres are used. These have a more aesthetic appearance than polyethylene pipes, but their technical properties are practically identical. Additionally, such pipes can be secured with plastic brackets that hold them closer to the wall.
